We
met Ike Starkman, a youthful looking man with a captivating
smile, in his huge spacious new Deli. A well decorated,
Art Deco style with rich colors, high quality chairs and
tables and a well stocked bar. Big TV screens are high
up; you can watch the news or your favorite games. The
food is delicious, drinks are plentiful and the baked
goods are addictive. Situated in South Beach on Collins
Avenue and Espanola
the Deli is busy 24 hours a day. The place has already
regular customers that eat there daily. Bi-lingual menu
and hi-tech service operation is one of the formulas for
success, fresh produce and diverse menu and good service
guarantee it, says Ike, a famous restaurateur and entrepreneur
from California.
He is the proud owner of the famous Rascal House in Sunny
Isles and the gourmet store Epicure with heavenly fruits
and vegetables. Ike, with the help of son Jason runs the
Miami operation. His other son Guy is running Jerrys
in LA, a 14 chain eateries.
A few ventures in New York complete his rein of the food
business. We brought around the Deli to the forefront
of the community, like a home base for our guest. They
come in, they know the staff and they can sit and relax
and have meetings and go about their business. I want
the people to feel at home here any time they eat here,
Ike says.
It is before Noon time as Dan and I sat at the impressive
place, feeling at home. The place was abuzz and the tables
were full of patrons from all over. Miami needs a place
like this one; we thought as we walked out of Jerrys.
